Auburn Climbing

Karen and I went rock climbing today in the Auburn State Recreation Area. We had an awesome time…the weather couldn’t have been better. I learned how to lead climb and belay for a lead climber. My first route that I lead was a 5.11a…probably more than I should have started with, but it worked out ok. I took a couple falls as I was trying to get over the roof of the crux, and one right at the clip over the roof which led me to about a 15 foot fall. It was good for me to see that the falls really aren’t that bad…but the definetly got my heart going. We also had an interesting experience when a chunk of limestone broke loose as Karen was climbing crashing down a few feet away from me. She was tough and didn’t let it phase her…until she saw the big bug that lived under that rock! We also found a geocache along the trail, GCM33B. All in all, an awesome day. |
